Best Kid on the BLOCK

I am re-launching my weekly Beauty Column. Guess I am the die-hard beauty products junkie and cannot resist the temptation to pen some personal reviews.

I am into skincare products. Unfortunately, this is the only aspect of the beauty industry I am well versed in. I use all the items I review and as for cosmetics, I am no expert nor am a frequent user, so I really am in no position to assert my authority on them.

Highly Recommended Item:
Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30

Comes in various SPFs versions (it’s SPF 30 & 55 for our local market)
Price: $15.50-$17.90 SGD

Product Description:

Feels Clean and Weightless
Fast absorbing, leaves skin soft and smooth
Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB
Help block out skin cancer—American Cancer Society
#1 Dermatologist Recommended Suncare

Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30 is a breakthrough in sun protection. It protects with Parsol® 1789 – advanced broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection – and combines it with Dry Touch technology to provide an ultra-light, non-shiny finish. This lightweight sunblock absorbs quickly and has a light, fresh scent. The non-oily formula is enriched with Vitamins A, C and E, and is PABA-free.

· Waterproof, sweatproof, rubproof
· Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)
· 88mL tube

My Verdict:
In our hot and humid tropical climate, it is a common gripe among the womenfolk that sunblock makes our skin too oily looking. That’s because the application of sunblock is the last step of our skincare regime, and after layering on so many products (think serum, moisturizer and then sunblock), our faces will ooze a sheen that’s not of the dewy kind we desire.
This sunblock is surprisingly matte, and this is the first product I have come across in the market that does everything I want. Mattes the skin, gives good protection against the sun rays and is value for money. When you apply all over your body, it’s totally unsustainable to buy a high end product.
I used to buy this:

But at around $70 SGD a pop, I am bleeding cash at a rapid pace.

Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30/ 55 is best multi-purpose sunblock on the market right now. I am definitely swearing by it.

I tried it sometime back, but was unfortunately allergic to it (it irritates and dries out my skin to no end).. I really liked how matte it was though.

I heard that Lancome and Fancl both have good sunblocks, but I haven't had the chance to try them yet.

The one I'm currently using is Anessa Perfect Smooth Sunscreen (silver bottle), which is also delightfully matte and light, despite being SPF50.

Do you apply sunscreen to your body everyday? I want to, but I haven't really found any good ones that's not sticky, and I'm not allergic to. For your info, Neutrogena's Spray-on body sunscreen is pretty good (my friend swears by it, but I'm again allergic to it).

Sorry, I get long-winded whenever I talk about sunscreens, heh.

Oh dear! How unfortunate.

Lancome's sunblock is not bad. I am currently using Lancome's UV EXPERT DNA SHIELD™ SPF 50 / PA+++ for my face.
It's alright, but I have to apply sparingly.

I just bought Biotherm UV Detox (Detoxifying Multi-Defense Fluid SPF 50/PA+++) which I think is even better. Smells citrusy and happy and is not greasy at all.

The Neutrogena option is for my body. I use it because it's more value for money.

Maybe you have sensitive skin and Japanese brands may be more suitable for you. Like Shiseido. But, they are also too expensive for liberal application.

Have you tried Mentholatum's Sunplay Series. Very lightweight. And comes in different formulas for various needs and skin condition. =)
